Giverny, France, home of Claude Monet and his
famous water gardens, is very special to me. My wife Judi and I vacationed there
last summer. Chalet Monet is my interpretation of Monet's villa-set
amongst the magnificent splendor of unending gardens and ponds.
Claude Monet had a very strong influence on my work, and roaming around his home
and gardens moved me immensely. As I sketched the front of his chalet, I saw it
as Monet's refuge. To me, the curtains on the window are both inviting and
protective. They seem partially open as a way to invite those indoors to the
magical world that is just outside their gossamer panels. All one has to do is
step forward into a world of color and shadow, like Judi and I did that day.
