Many talented artists have painted Capri, which is now a world
famous vacation spot. I feel that the most beautiful part of Capri is the
little, south - shore fishing villiage and beach called Marina Piccola. The
Villiage opens onto emerald and ceruleam waters, with the famous Faragliani
rocks jutting out of the bay at the far end of the villiage. It is just a small
stretch of sand that extends between jagged lava rocks, and there are usually
colorful fishing boats moored at this cove.
I have painted this area before and I shall paint it over and over again
throughout my life. It's funny - Capri has been called the land of the
"Sirens", a reference to its reputation as the island of the Sirens
that tempted Ulysses. I feel that Capri also calls to me and tempts me to paint
her over and over. Many years ago, I fell in love with Capri. To me, painting
Capri is irresistible.
In this work, my goal was to capture the essence of Marina Piccola, which is
always filled with fishing boats and local fishermen. I love the rocky
landscapes, the flowering plants, and the vineyards that are "By Capri
Cove"
