There are places that deserve a chapter in my life's
story and "Siena Arbor" celebrates one of them. It was here in the
garden at Certosa di Maggiano where I proposed to my beautiful wife Judi on our
first trip to Italy. The sun was setting behind the distant hills; cocktails
were being served in the garden; gypsy music played in the distance; I asked
Judi to be my partner forever...and she said "yes!"
I'm fortunate man to have had the most romantic moment of my life unfold in such
an intensely romantic spot as this. Siena is perhaps the most beautiful of the
medieval cities in Italy's famed Tuscany region. The magnificent Certosa di
Maggiano was a monastery six centuries ago; today is it a hotel of unrivaled
luxury and aristocratic splendor.
The landscape of Siena are unmatched in all of Italy. The town belongs to the
lovers who wander into the hills on foot. Rome may be the capital of Italy, but
Tuscany is the heart - and Siena is the soul!
When Judi and I looked at the painting now, we're overcome by the memory of that
night of nights, when we strolled down the walkway in Siena Arbor and committed
our lives to each other.
