"Neva Egg - 'The Angel of the River' 2000"

Peter the Great built the Peter & Paul Fortress in the middle of the River Neva, at the heart of his new capital of St Petersburg. On top of the cathedral spire stands the golden angel of the City.
The Neva Egg by Sarah Fabergé depicts in mouth-blown crystal the river, frozen in winter. Within the silver finial, a moonstone represents the icy night. Opening the Egg reveals the surprise - the vermeil Angel holding aloft a brilliant white diamond to guide and inspire the people of St Petersburg.
